Sixth Form Futures Team News

Futures

The sixth form Futures team has undergone some changes for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Miss Tinsley has joined the team as mentoring lead, to support Mrs Campbell, who is responsible for apprenticeships and careers, and Mr Ayre, who is responsible for university applications.

The Futures team has been working in partnership with year 13 tutors to support year 13 students. Miss Tinsley has been meeting with students from each tutor group who have indicated to their tutor that they are unsure of their future destination. These discussions will continue after half-term and all targeted students will receive further support from Mr Ayre, Miss Tinsley or Mrs Campbell.

Year 13 tutors have been working with tutees who are planning to make a UCAS application, supporting them with their personal statement and helping them to finalise their application.

The sixth form Futures team aims to support all students in reaching a decision about their future pathway, whether they are considering an apprenticeship, a degree, or a different route. Our intention is to work with students to help them reach a destination that is right for them.

Mrs Campbell (pcampbell@thomas-hardye.net) regularly promotes apprenticeship opportunities on the Year 13 Microsoft Teams group. All students should ensure they check this group regularly to stay up-to-date with relevant opportunities and experiences. Apprenticeships open for applicants through the year, so students must be pro-active in seeking out vacancies.

If students are making a UCAS application to study at a Higher Education institution then they must meet the school’s internal deadline, which is 23rd November 2020. This will allow the school plenty of time to check the application and add the reference ahead of the final deadline, which is 15th January 2021. Further information about the UCAS process can be found on the school website. Enquiries can be sent to Mr Ayre (tayre@thomas-hardye.net).
