Autumn Term
All new students joining the Thomas Hardye School CCF will initially join the Army Section, irrespective of whether they eventually wish to be part of the Army Section or RAF Section, and will undergo basic military training, common to both services for the first term.
The new ‘recruits’ will be organised into three Recruit sections run by a cadet NCO and training will include:
Drill, Turnout and Military Knowledge training

- how to wear their uniform correctly
- how to identify and respond to different ranks
- how to perform basic static drill movements
- marching and halting in preparation for the Remembrance Parade
Fieldcraft training
- how to camouflage and conceal yourself
- how to move tactically
Map and Compass and Expedition training
- how to cook your own food in the field
- how to construct an improvised shelter
- how to correctly pack your kit and erect a tent
- understand how to use a map
First Aid training
- how to call an ambulance in an emergency
- how to assess and respond to a first aid situation
Skill at Arms training and Shooting
- how to safely operate the .22 rifle
- target shooting on a 25m gallery range
Physical training
- basic team sports and physical fitness training
At the end of the Autumn Term all recruits will be assessed in their understanding of the different subjects to date, and on successful completion will be promoted to cadet, inducted into either the Army Section or RAF Section and awarded their respective cap badges.
